First off, everybody is buzzing about the hottest event of the year coming The Fayetteville Press Newspaper’s Annual Father’s Day Hair-Fashion Show. J.J. Jones and the staff of the Fayetteville Press invited all to the fabulous showcase and gala at Ambiance Entertainment Venue located at 2510 Legion Road in Fayetteville, NC. Doors opened at 6pm; the event started at 7:30pm with food, fashion, door prizes and more. Jay McKrae and Jana Todd hosted the festivities and yours truly, the "attitude child," gave a special poetic tribute to fathers. Plus, if you’re like me, you were waiting to see the competition of the area’s hottest hairstylists. Dennis? Can’t wait to see what you’ve got in store for us next year, baby! (smile) We’d like to give a big thank you to all of our sponsors for contributing to the success of this event. Contact the Fayetteville Press for tickets and more information.
The Whitney Houston saga continues. Whitney’s best pal Cherelle tells everyone not to believe everything they see in photos of Whitney, for she often goes out camouflaged as a ‘bag lady’ to avoid fans when she goes shopping for household items. Say what?! Now, if you’ve looked a recent pictures of Whitney, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see something is very wrong with the girl. But I guess Cherelle is just "covering" as a good friend would sometimes. By the way, when it comes down to what Cherelle thinks of Tina Brown (Bobby’s sister) spilling the dirt on her sister-in-law, Cherelle lashed out recently and said: "Is somebody mad at somebody because she doesn’t take care of them or what? My thing is this: if anybody needs to try to give a statement on something like this right now, it should be Bobby and that is the bottom line as far as I’m concerned. My sister-in-law would never have gotten past my husband with no ‘spit’ (but that WASN’T the word she used) like this."
Speaking of Bobby Brown, one of my radio friends in Atlanta just recently talked with Bobby at the station’s birthday bash and New Edition tribute and asked him about Whitney. Says Akini: "Bobby was like…‘I don’t know. Why don’t you asked Whitney yourself? And while you’re at it, tell her to phone home to her husband. I‘d like to know myself." Ooooookay…
Michael Jackson plans to adopt a Japanese orphan. The dad-of-three is said to have visited children’s homes there on his current Far East tour. My sources tell me he’s looking for kids to add to his current collection of three. You ever notice how it never seems to be a black kid Michael wants to adopt. However, when it comes to Michael, that may be a good thing! Thank you, Michael (smile)Trouble is brewing for hip hop’s hottest couple - Jay Z and Beyonce. That trouble is being caused by one of Jay Z’s newest artists, Rihanna. Rumors are beginning to circulate that Rihanna is becoming uncomfortably close to her mentor Jay Z which I hear is really ticking Ms. B off! My sources say the Jigga Man and Rihanna have been spending a lot of time together while he and Beyonce have been spotted arguing …especially after calls from Rihanna. I’m sure it doesn’t help that Rihanna looks and acts like a younger version of Beyonce. Ooo…ooo…ooooh… this is gonna be good!
The last tapings of Comedy Central’s "Chappelle’s Show" which Dave Chappelle did before he quit and traveled to South Africa last year will finally air in the form of four episodes to begin on July 9. "Chappelle’s Show: The Lost Episodes," as the network has titled them, will feature Charlie Murphy and Donnell Rawlings introducing the new sketches as Dave did not film any intros before he took off. (And he ain‘t about to do them now as Dave is in the not for all the money in the world can y’all make me come back to this pimping madness mode. I feel ya, brotha. )
Sad news to report from the entertainment world:Billy Preston, writer of the Joe Cocker classic "You Are So Beautiful" and the only musician to play with both the Rolling Stones and the Beatles, died earlier this month of causes related to kidney failure. He was 59.
